VoIP provider Skype has admitted that it is close to exhausting growth potential in its PC customer base, a situation likely to see the company focus future growth on mobile and other Internet-enabled devices. “We’re nearing saturation on PCs,” Manrique Brenes, Skype’s Director of Hardware Business Development, told Dow Jones Newswires. “Now, our growth in terms of revenue is to make Skype available on more platforms. That will increase our value for shareholders.”

As it nears a quarter-billion PC users, Skype software has already been introduced in mobile phones. Skype says that a stripped-down mobile version of its software, which has been available for Windows Mobile since 2004, has been downloaded more than 7 million times. Last year Skype also announced a deal with network operator 3. In addition, Skype this week announced that it has been extended to other kinds of devices, including Sony’s PSP game-playing device.
