Yahoo has won a deal with Samsung – the world’s second-largest handset vendor – that will see the Internet company’s services pre-loaded on “tens of millions of Samsung mobile devices” from next month. Services such as Yahoo Mail, Messenger, Search, News, Calendar and Weather will be embedded on Samsung devices running Google’s Android platform as well as the South Korean vendor’s own operating system, bada. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Today’s global deal  – signed by Dr. Ho Soo Lee, EVP, media solution center, Samsung Electronics (pictured on the left) and David Ko, SVP, audience, mobile and local, North America, Yahoo (pictured on the right) – builds on a previous partnership between the two firms started in 2007. Yahoo has recently taken steps to place emphasis on mobile throughout its entire organisation, taking a leaf out of major rival Google’s book. Yahoo is considered something of a laggard in the mobile space compared to Google.
