Vodafone UK attracted more than 100,000 subscribers to its LTE network since its launch at the end of August, an encouraging start that demonstrates the level of subscriber interest in the high-speed service.

The operator trumpeted its achievement in attracting that number of users since the 29 August launch.

However, despite the respectable rate at which Vodafone is signing up LTE subscribers, it still lags rival EE which has the lead in the UK market. It passed more than one million subscribers in early September.

Vodafone pointed out it has only been seven weeks since the launch of its 4G tariffs, and only five weeks since the service went live in London.

The Vodafone service is now available in more than 80 towns and districts around London, it said.

In addition, it will launch LTE in Liverpool on 17 October and Glasgow on 24 October, with Manchester to follow shortly afterwards. The aim is to hit 98 per cent population coverage by 2015.

However, market leader EE launched at the end of 2012 and in early September said it served more than 100 towns and cities around the UK. It also said it passed one million 4G subscribers since its launch on 30 October 2012.
