Nokia has secured another high-profile customer for its mobile content platform Ovi, signing a deal with global operator Orascom Telecom. According to a statement, the Ovi services will be “progressively offered to all Orascom Telecom customers” and will include such services as Nokia Maps, Nokia N-Gage games and music applications.

Nokia has been aggressively pursuing its push into the Internet services space in recent months, making a number of acquisitions and application launches at a time when its traditional handset business is under threat from concerns over future sales. It has already secured operator deals for its Ovi service with 3, Orange, Telefonica, T-Mobile, Telenor, TIM and Vodafone. Orascom Telecom now gives Nokia access to one of the most diverse mobile operator portfolios in the world. According to Wireless Intelligence, operators affiliated to Orascom and its majority-owner Weather Investments had just under 100 million total mobile connections worldwide by end of second-quarter 2008. The group has operations as far afield as Algeria, Pakistan, Egypt, Tunisia, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, and has expressed intention to launch in Canada and North Korea.
