Microsoft debuted tools for developers to extend existing titles and build new apps for its fitness wearable, Microsoft Band.

The Microsoft Band SDK Developer Preview contains coding materials for Windows Phone, Android and iOS apps which can work with the wearable.

Developers can get sample code and access additional resources such as release notes, guidelines on experience design and documentation.

Apps can take advantage of a range of sensors including heart rate, UV, accelerometer, gyroscope, and skin temperature, as well as fitness data, “to design cutting-edge user experiences,” Microsoft said in a blog.

“The SDK Preview also lets developers create and send notifications to the Microsoft Band’s tiles, and personalise and monetise by offering people different ways to customise their device,” it added.

Earlier this month, the company announced iOS support for the Microsoft Band SDK, giving developers “even more opportunities to develop across all platforms.”

The device is also set to make its UK debut next month.
