Facebook said that it sent “more than 160 million visitors last month” to mobile apps, up from 60 million in late February, who were responsible for more than 1.1 billion app visits in the same timeframe, up from 320 million.

The social networking giant also said that seven of the top ten grossing iOS apps and six of the top ten Android titles are integrated with Facebook.

The company announced its strategy to support the addition of social features to mobile apps late last year, stating that this would “drive the discovery and distribution of apps using [the] Facebook platform.”

In addition to enabling users to initiate mobile apps from Facebook, it enables “requests” to be sent by users to invite friends to an app, and supports authenticated referrals.

Bret Taylor, CTO of Facebook, took to the stage at the GSMA Mobile World Congress earlier this year to talk up a collaborative approach to the mobile apps industry, based around HTLM5.
