Qualcomm has continued to promote internally with the appointment of Derek Aberle (pictured) as its new president.

Aberle has been with Qualcomm since 2000, during which time he has held down a number of positions, most recently executive vice president and group president.

In a similar spirit, insider Steve Mollenkopf took over as CEO earlier this month.

Mollenkopf described how, under Aberle’s leadership, Qualcomm’s technology licensing business has more than doubled revenues and profits. Aberle will report into Mollenkopf.

He is also credited with establishing the company’s 4G licensing programme.

Aberle is actually taking over the president’s spot from Mollenkopf who was previously both Qualcomm’s president and COO.

Following Mollenkopf’s elevation, long-time CEO Paul Jacobs has become executive chairman.

Aberle’s new role has oversight across all divisions as well as its market development and marketing groups.

He will continue to work on strategies for diversifying core business, as well as seeking out new business opportunities.
