Motorola is looking for a new full-time leader of its mobile devices business with knowledge of the consumer electronics industry. The company’s Chief Executive, Greg Brown, told an analyst meeting that he was hoping a new leader could help the recovery of the unit following a series of executive departures. “We’ve got to get that stabilised, and I think we need a leader that has more of a strategic and product orientation, with a level of familiarity around consumer electronics,” said Brown.

Last month Brown took control of the company’s handset division, succeeding Stu Reed. A week prior to assuming the interim role, Brown stated that the vendor was considering selling or spinning off the business, which has lost market share to rivals amid criticism it depended too long on the RAZR product range, According to Gartner, the company saw a sharp drop in its Q4 2007 share, falling 9.6% quarter-on-quarter to 11.9% of the market. Mobile Business Briefing reported last week that Motorola has been unable to find a buyer for the unit, a move that ties in with today’s news that the company is preparing to revamp the division internally.
