India’s Supreme Court reaffirmed its earlier dismissal of a US$2.2 billion tax claim on Vodafone Group after the government last month petitioned it to reconsider its decision, reports Bloomberg. A panel of judges  yesterday rejected a government plea to review the court’s January decision to dismiss the tax claim relating to Vodafone’s 2007 purchase of Hutchison’s India operations. The Indian tax department sought INR112.2 billion (US$2.2 billion) in capital gains levy from Vodafone, claiming the company should have withheld the tax from its payment to Hutchison.
