Google plans to incorporate many of the new elements seen in the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablet OS in the next version of Android designed for smartphones, and eventually sees the distinction between its tablets and smartphone platforms disappearing over time. In an exclusive interview with Mobile World Live, Dave Burke, Google’s director of engineering, said that the new Android version 2.4 – codenamed ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ – would include the improved multi-tasking, widget support, APIs and other enhancements seen on the tablet-focused Honeycomb release.
