Gemalto has been chosen as the technology provider for Transfer, the mobile payment service that is to be launched in Mexico by América Móvil with banks Banamex and Banco Inbursa.  The proposed service will enable subscribers to make money transfers and buy airtime among other features and is based on SMS messaging. Transfer will be based on Gemalto’s LinqUs mobile payment platform which enables customers to use their mobile accounts safely through different channels.

The Transfer service will be offered in Mexico by América Móvil’s local unit Telcel along with Banamex, which is part of Citibank, and Banco Inbursa. The Mexican service is the first part of a wider agreement announced last year between América Móvil and Citbank to launch mobile money services across Latin America. Originally billed for the first quarter of 2012, the Mexican launch is the initial stage of this proposed wider rollout.
