Bloomberg reports that RPX, a patent buying firm which represents companies including Sony, Cisco, Nokia and Samsung, is set to put in a bid for Nortel’s patent portfolio, a transaction which could be worth some US$1 billion. It was said that RPX had approached the relevant court for details on rules for joint bids from multiple companies, although it was not stated who it may be working on behalf of. Google has already been named as the “stalking horse” bidder in the process, and RIM has also been mooted as a potential bidder.
