Singapore operator SingTel is still looking to join the ranks of operators with their own Over-The-Top (OTT) messaging apps, despite earlier setbacks with a similar project.

According to ZDNet, the company is working internally to “overcome the setback” it had with its previous effort, called LoopMe.

The operator is looking to see if it can offer something better than OTT players such as WhatsApp, Viber and Line, as well as differentiating itself from its rivals, the report said.

However, details of its new efforts were not revealed.

According to Israel publication Globes, SingTel cancelled the LoopMe project, which was a joint effort with Amdocs, after Amdocs was named in a copyright infringement suit by start-up T-Jat Systems.

This followed a business alliance between Amdocs and T-Jat, related to the latter’s unified contact list technology, which included work on the SingTel project.

The paper also said that Amdocs has filed a counter-suit against T-Jat.

LoopMe had seen a soft-launch earlier this year, before being shelved.
