India’s Department of Telecommunications has revived a proposal for the merger of state-run telecom companies Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd., according to the Business Standard. MTNL has operations in Delhi and Mumbai, while BSNL provides telecom services in the rest of the country. Earlier talks for a merger between the two companies had been abandoned due to issues related to the companies’ organisational structure, especially since MTNL is listed.
