A video advertisement promoting Vodafone Egypt has sparked outrage online among Egyptians who took offence at what they believed was an attempt to connect a mobile phone marketing campaign with the country’s recent revolution, reports the Financial Times. Both Vodafone and JWT – the advertising agency that made the video – deny the allegation that the three-minute video was an attempt to take credit for the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak’s regime. Nevertheless, Vodafone has reportedly distanced itself from the film, which it says breaks “strict policies” about the association of its brand with political or religious affairs.
