Google CEO Eric Schmidt has said that the more targeted nature of mobile advertising will lead to the search engine giant eventually making more money from mobile than via its traditional online channels. “We can make more money in mobile than desktop eventually because the mobile computer is more targeted. You carry your phone everywhere, it knows all about you, it knows what you’re up to. We can do a very, very targeted ad. Over time we will make more money from mobile advertising,” Schmidt said in an interview with the US news channel CNBC, reports New Media Age. However, he declined to put a timeframe on when mobile revenues would outstrip traditional Internet.

Schmidt also countered rumours that Android, its mobile operating system, had been delayed. According to speculation this week, T-Mobile USA could launch an Android handset as early as next month, although most reports suggest that the first devices will arrive in the fourth-quarter of the year. Google has also had to face some disquiet from sections of the new Android developer community. This week, Google reportedly responded to a 245-strong petition from developers calling for more clarity around Android’s SDK (Software Development Kit) with an ambiguous two-sentence statement: “We appreciate the enthusiasm of our developers and we’re excited that you’re so passionate about the Android platform. Thanks for taking the time to send this.”
