Google’s head of consumer payments Vikas Gupta has resigned, according to AllThingsD which has confirmed the departure with the search giant. Gupta was one of the leading executives in Google’s payments team whose responsibilities included “overseeing Google Wallet” according to the report. He joined Google 18 months ago after the search giant acquired Jambool, a virtual goods payment platform he founded.  Just last week another senior Google payments executive Stephanie Tilenius shifted her position within the company. At the same time it was decided that Osama Bedier, Google’s VP of Payments, “will be taking on a larger role within Google Wallet”, says the report.

Google Wallet launched last autumn and the search giant is pushing the service forward although it faces some challenges to overcome not least that the US-based service is still only available on one handset (the Samsung Nexus S 4G) and with one mobile operator (Sprint).
