Google puts pressure on developers to integrate Google Wallet into their Android-based games and apps ahead of rival payment services such as PayPal, Zong and Boku, according to Reuters. The search giant has told a number of developers that if they continue to use other payment services their apps “would be removed from Android Market (now known as Google Play)”, according to the report which cites interviews with developers, executives and investors in the mobile gaming and payment sectors.

According to the report, the reason for Google’s approach is twofold: It is trying to simplify consumer payments and so drive up purchases of apps so offsetting higher costs. Google Wallet charges a higher cut per transaction than some rivals, it says. But the second reason is Google “using its powerful position in the mobile apps market to promote an in-house offering”. Google declined to comment.
