App research firm Distimo named Angry Birds as its most downloaded app of 2011, taking into account both free and paid-for volumes across app stores.

Angry Birds is available through Amazon, Apple’s App Stores for iPad and iPhone, Android Market, Ovi Store and Windows Phone Marketplace – the only tier-one store where it is not available is BlackBerry App World. More impressively, Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons also feature in Distimo’s top-ten, making three entries for the Rovio property.

Following Angry Birds was Facebook, which has a native app available for all of the major operating systems, and Skype, which is not available for BlackBerry or (ironically, considering its new ownership) Windows Phone 7.

Google Maps and Apple’s iBooks both perform strongly, despite only being available for Android and iOS, respectively.
