It gained 1.8 million new subscribers in Brazil and 1.5 million in Mexico.  On a group level, net income was MXN23.51 billion (US$2 billion), up 12.1 percent year-on-year, on revenue of MXN156.23 billion, up 6.3 percent. Mobile service revenue was up 11 percent year-on-year, driven by a 37.8 percent increase in mobile data and 4.3 percent growth in mobile voice services.

During the period, America Movil announced a deal with Digicel, which will see it acquiring the Digicel businesses in Honduras and El Salvador, and disposing of its Jamaican arm. The transactions are subject to government and regulatory approval, and are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2011. The company was also hit by an MXN11.99 billion fine in Mexico for alleged “monopolistic practices.” It describes this as “illegal, arbitrary and opportunistic,” and that it is “evaluating the scope and legal ground of said resolution and will exercise any and all legal actions and/or remedies to challenge it.”
