New data from EJL Wireless Research reveals that Chinese vendor ZTE won 34% of the 47 mobile basestation contract wins awarded in first quarter of the year.

The study adds that all the major mobile equipment manufacturers, including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, LG Nortel and ZTE, won at least one contract in the quarter. Nokia Siemens Networks won the only US$1 billion contract, the study said.

ZTE’s success meant that Chinese companies accounted for 40% of all contract wins, including 81% of global CDMA contracts. The overall number of contacts awarded dropped slightly from 53 in the previous quarter.
