ZTE introduced its Grand X2 smartphone, another Intel-powered device from the aggressive Chinese vendor.

The device features an Intel Atom Z2580 processor running at up to 2GHz – a similar chip to that used in Lenovo’s recently announced K900.

ZTE announced its plans to support Atom Z2580 earlier this year, having previously offered a device powered by an earlier Intel chip (Grand X).

It also showcased an Atom Z2580-powered device in April, called Geek, but availability details were not revealed. Geek is similar to the Grand X2, but with a larger screen.

But the company is not playing favourites with its silicon suppliers, stating that it is planning to offer “super phones” powered by Nvidia processors. It also uses Qualcomm processors in many devices.

The Android powered Grand X2 is said to provide a “high quality experience for the demanding value conscious user”.

It also features an 8 megapixel camera and has a 4.5-inch HD (720p) display.

The handset is set for launch in Europe in the third quarter of 2013, with both operators and channel partners.
