Teen social networking site Piczo is the latest social network to launch a mobile version of its content. Available internationally from January, the San-Francisco based service will allow its members to access it on their mobile phones by downloading a standalone application onto handsets. This will allow its 12.5 million monthly users to post comments, photos and videos, using content from its partners’ sites, which include YouTube and Yahoo! Video.

With an audience primarily consisting of users aged between 13 and 18, the company has not yet confirmed how it will fund the service, although options include introducing adverts, subscription fees or one-off payments. Social networks are expanding into the mobile space at a rapid rate. In the past few months, both MySpace and Facebook launched mobile platforms for their networks, Bebo signed an exclusive deal with O2 in Ireland and MTV launched a mobile social network. In addition, since September, both Microsoft and Google have made acquisitions in the sector, acquiring mobile social networks WebFives and Zingku, respectively, while startup Trutrap raised US$6.5 million to launch its mobile social network.
