The New York Times reports that Google and Yahoo have offered to significantly narrow the scope of a planned advertising partnership in a last-minute effort to win the approval of the Justice Department, which is scrutinising the deal for its effect on competition. The report notes that the deal – whereby Google will place ads next to some Web search results on Yahoo, lifting Yahoo’s revenue – would be shortened to two years, from as many as ten.
