Motorola has unveiled its eighth Android-powered smartphone, Quench, which will be available by the end of next month.

The touchscreen device incorporates Motorola’s ‘Motoblur’ user interface. In the US, Quench will be exclusively available via T-Mobile USA and will be dubbed Cliq XT, implying that the device is an upgraded version of the original Cliq (its first Android smartphone unveiled last September).

Features on Cliq XT include ‘pinch and zoom’ and the inclusion of Adobe Flash Lite.

The US vendor has turned to Google’s operating system as it attempts to revive its flagging fortunes. It claimed only a 3.7 percent share of the total global handset market in the last quarter.

Last week it was announced that Motorola aims to split into two companies in the first quarter of 2011, one to focus on mobile devices and television set-top boxes, and the other on networks and enterprise mobility.

On the subject of Android, Motorola also yesterday announced that its Milestone device (known in the US as Droid) will be available to all Spanish consumers in Mid-March. It will be the first Android 2.1 phone in this market. Milestone has previously been launched in France, Italy, Germany, the UK, Argentina, Brazil and Canada.
