Microsoft iterated its continued support for its Surface tablet line, although its focus is very much on the Windows 8-powered Surface Pro 3, rather than the Windows RT-powered version.

In a blog post, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, said: “Microsoft is putting its full and sustained support behind the ongoing Surface program as one of a number of great hardware choices for businesses large and small.”

Brian Hall, general manager for Surface, said that Microsoft had opted to outline its continued support for the device in order to “address questions for the business community”.

The comments came shortly after a DigiTimes report claimed Microsoft was looking to axe the Surface business, as it “continues to see weak sales for its Surface Pro 3 tablet”.

It also said that volumes are “unlikely to surpass one million units”, and that Microsoft is “not very aggressive about development of a next-generation Surface”.

While Microsoft said that it has “kept our roadmap plans close to the vest, as we needed to land new Surface products in a competitive market”, it did state that its current line of accessories “will be compatible with the next-generation of the Pro line of Surface”.
