Israel-based StartApp has announced that its in-app search engine has been downloaded 150 million times, having been integrated with 3,500 Android apps.

The technology provides users with a bookmarked search engine within apps, the use of which can generate revenue for developers.

StartApp pays developers for every 1,000 downloads of an app that embeds the StartApp API. Whenever a user performs a web search using the StartApp technology within an app, the developer also gets a cut.

StartApp is intended to provide an alternative monetisation method alongside premium downloads, in-app purchases, and advertising.
