Gaming firm PopCap is to release its first titles for Android devices via Amazon’s Appstore in the US. The firm announced this week it has signed a deal with Amazon to offer two exclusive versions of its gaming titles “during two different two-week periods.” ‘Chuzzle’ will be available beginning this week through to 30 May, and will be followed by ‘Plants vs. Zombies’ during a second exclusive offer later this month. The games will be free for the first day of their availability, after which they’ll be available for purchase and download for a list price of US$2.99 each.

“Our relationship with Amazon is pivotal to PopCap’s overall strategy in bringing a growing roster of mobile titles to the ever-widening base of smartphone users,” noted Giordano Bruno Contestabile, PopCap’s senior director of global product and business strategy for mobile. “By making these titles available on the Android platform, we’ll significantly extend the reach of our top franchises to legions of new mobile customers and gaming fans alike.”

PopCap claims to be the “the worldwide leader in casual games” and currently offers over 50 titles across numerous platforms such as the Xbox, PlayStation3, Nintendo DS, iPad, and Facebook, as well as mobile devices.

Amazon launched the Android-based Appstore in the US March as alternative to the platform’s default Android Market store.
