South Korean operator KT introduced a mobile subscription games service based on Exent’s GameTanium, allowing users to have unlimited access to a catalogue of Android games for a monthly fee.

Users of Olleh GameTanium will be able to choose from more than 75 titles without any advertising, supported by editorial features including ratings, reviews and game trailers. Users can also play games when offline.

No exact pricing has been given, but KT said the subscription will be available for a “low monthly fee” with discount pricing for longer subscription plans.  A free three-day trial of the service is also available.

According to research firm Nomura, smartphone game users in South Korea are forecast to grow from 10.2 million in 2011 to 33.1 million in 2015, when spending is expected to hit KRW710 billion (US$630.5 million).

"With one of the highest smartphone penetration rates in the world and mobile game play among Koreans poised to continue its steep growth curve, we are excited to partner with KT to introduce GameTanium in one of the most connected cultures in the world, “ said Exent president Peter von Schlossberg.

US number-one operator Verizon Wireless introduced GameTanium for its users last week.
