Samsung played-down reports that it is set to redesign its recently announced Galaxy Tab 10.1 device following the launch of Apple’s iPad 2. According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, the company will release the tablet, announced at the GSMA Mobile World Congress last month, “as scheduled.”  Previously, it had been claimed that an executive from Samsung had noted that “we will have to improve the parts that are inadequate,” and that “Apple made [iPad 2] very thin” – which was seen as an indication that the company would re-design its device to have a more competitive form-factor. According to its original press release, Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be 10.9mm deep, compared with 13.4 mm for the iPad – but 8.8mm for iPad 2.

Questions have also been raised about Samsung’s pricing strategy for the Galaxy Tab 10.1. It was suggested by the original report that it will be priced higher than the existing 7-inch screen Galaxy Tab, which would make it uncompetitive when compared to the Apple device. It was previously reported that sales of the first-generation Galaxy Tab had not been particularly brisk, with the company citing figures for sales into the channel, rather than to end users.
