AT&T CEO John Stankey expressed optimism about the company’s fixed wireless access service during a call to discuss Q1 earnings, but outlined a different approach than rivals Verizon and T-Mobile US by explaining it is a niche service.

AT&T vowed to continue offering a $30 internet tariff after US government funding to spur connections by low-income households ends later this year, as it committed a further $3 billion to initiatives to close the digital divide.
