Vodafone has taken a double swipe at Apple’s iPhone, with the Financial Times reporting that CEO Arun Sarin believes the product currently delivers “a pretty poor experience” when run over cellular networks. Meanwhile the operator’s German unit has obtained a restraining order against Deutsche Telekom prohibiting sale of the handset in the region.
In a report in the Financial Times, Sarin hints that the poor user experience is due to the device’s inability to run on 3G networks. “What would you want to do on the iPhone? I like to go on the Internet, I do YouTube; you try YouTube on a 2.5G phone; it is a new experience.” Separately, a Vodafone Deutschland spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires that a restraining order concerning sales of the iPhone in Germany was issued by a regional court in Hamburg on Monday. Specifically, Vodafone is questioning iPhone’s exclusive availability via T-Mobile’s network as well as within a specific set of T-Mobile’s subscription offerings. A Vodafone spokesman added that the restraining order is not aimed at stopping all iPhone sales.
