T-Mobile USA is rumoured to be launching one of the world’s first Android-powered devices as part of its 3G HSPA rollout expansion plans. Various blogs in the US this week report that the operator will offer the Android-based HTC Dream smartphone to coincide with the rollout of 3G in a further 20 US cities in October. The operator launched its first US 3G network in New York earlier this year. It has previously hinted that it intends to rollout the network to further US markets by year-end and launch a Google-powered Android device in the fourth-quarter, but until now the two developments had not been linked. As well as the HTC Dream, CNet News notes that some blogs are suggesting that T-Mobile could be preparing to launch a further three 3G devices: the Sony Ericsson Z780, a high-end Samsung camera phone, and possibly the Motorola ZINE ZN5.

Although unconfirmed, speculation that T-Mobile USA could launch an Android device as early as October will be encouraging for backers of the Android platform, as recent reports have suggested that many of the first launches have been delayed. Other operators linked to Android launches include China Mobile, Sprint Nextel and NTT DoCoMo.
