The ITU today announced it has given its stamp of approval to an energy-efficient one-charger-fits-all new mobile phone solution, an initiative initially unveiled by the GSMA earlier this year. Meanwhile the ITU also confirmed yesterday it has received six candidate submissions for the next-generation – ‘true 4G’ – mobile technology known as IMT-Advanced. As expected, the six proposals were all focused around either the 3GPP’s LTE-Advanced proposal, or the IEEE’s 802.16m proposal. A decision on the final selection is expected to be announced in October 2010.
