Yahoo said first-quarter earnings more than doubled, while a sharp rebound in display advertising helped the Internet company eke out its first revenue increase since the third quarter of 2008. But a 14 percent drop in revenues from its search-advertising business restrained its overall revenue gain. Yahoo reported income for the period ended March 31 of US$310.2 million from US$117.6 million a year ago. Revenue rose to US$1.6 billion from US$1.58 billion. But the company’s net revenue, after traffic acquisition costs, was US$1.13 billion, slightly below Wall Street expectations of US$1.17 billion.
