Openwave Systems signed a definitive agreement to sell its mediation and messaging business units to Marlin Equity Partners, which will operate the units as Openwave Mobility and Openwave Messaging respectively. The remaining entity will be renamed Unwired Planet – “a name that recalls the company’s rich heritage of innovation” – and will focus on intellectual property activities. Financial terms of the Marlin deal were not disclosed, but Reuters suggested a figure in the US$60 million to US$120 million range, based on analyst opinions.
