LIVE FROM APPS WORLD, LONDON: Facebook has told developers how integrating their apps with the social network will drive downloads of their apps by tapping into the ability for users to share content.

“By integrating Facebook with your app, you make it really easy for users to share their activity. In return, Facebook drives you traffic,” said Facebook developer advocate Simon Cross at the event this week.

By connecting apps to Facebook, developers allow users to share their activity on the social network. If friends click on the activity to find out more from a mobile device but don’t have the connected app installed they are directed to Google Play or Apple’s App Store and invited to download the app.

Eight out of the top 10 iOS apps and seven out of the top 10 Android apps are now connected to Facebook, while this activity flow has seen 174 million app downloads in the past 30 days according to Cross.

With the potential of Facebook to drive app downloads, Cross said developers must think of how to encourage their users to want to share their activity when developing the idea for their app.
