EA announced its acquisition of Firemint, an Australia-based mobile development studio which has already launched several products for iPad and iPhone, and which also offers “an attractive future slate of games.” Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to a statement from EA, the deal “brings a proven powerhouse of creative talent” to its team, and follows its recent acquisition of Mobile Post Products, which was described as “the worldwide leader in high quality cross-platform development and porting of games for smartphones.”

In a blog post, Rob Murray, CEO of Firemint, said that “we will be operating at very high levels of autonomy…the easiest way to sum it up is business as usual.” He also noted that before its own-label Flight Control and Real Racing (pictured) games, its greatest success had been in making games for EA Mobile – “we learned our skills working with the same people that we are partnering with today.” The alliance means that EA will “free us up a lot to focus on the creative stuff that really matters and they can provide essential resources to help us build better games,” he noted.

Firemint was established in 1999 and developed more than 30 games on commission before switching to self-publishing titles. It has “about 40” staff.
