Orange has struck a deal with oil company Total so subscribers can open a mobile money account and make withdrawals and deposits at petrol service stations in Africa and the Middle East.

The initial stage of the partnership is already running in Senegal and Cameroon. A broader rollout at over 1,300 service stations in eleven other countries is planned for the second half of 2013.

The partners also hope to broaden the range of Orange Money services on offer to include purchases made in Total service stations using a subscriber’s mobile account.
