Singapore’s StarHub is trialling Huawei’s LampSite platform to boost indoor coverage of retail shops at the Marina Bay Sands resort complex.
LampSite allows StarHub to combine both the 1.8 and 2.6GHz bands on a single system to provide theoretical peak download speeds of 300Mb/s. Huawei said it supports two 20MHz LTE carriers (similar to carrier aggergtion) as well as WiFi. Using LTE-Advanced and MIMO technologies, it also enables multi-mode/band operation on a single platform, the vendor said.
Lim Eng Huat, StarHub’s VP of mobile network engineering, said it sees huge potential in Huawei’s LampSite, which could allow it to quickly upgrade its indoor networks.
“It will enable use to cater to LTE MIMO, using new frequency bands like 2.6GHz, and enhance the capacity of existing indoor systems on the fly when needed. This is all possible without the need for extensive and costly retrofitting of existing infrastructure, thus making possible short deployment times to enhance indoor LTE coverage,” he said.
