Apple will host a launch event at its headquarters on 10 September when an unveiling of at least one new iPhone model is widely expected.

In addition, the Chinese media is reporting that the Cupertino giant will also stage a separate event in Beijing on 11 September.

Reports said the US launch will see a lower cost model from Apple, dubbed the “iPhone 5C”, as well as a successor to the existing model, which has been labelled the “iPhone 5S”.

Invitations to the event carry the line “This should brighten everyone’s day”, leading to the conclusion that coloured phones will also be on the agenda.

Reports about a launch in Beijing have speculated about a tie-in to a possible lower cost iPhone model. An unveiling of a long-awaited alliance with China Mobile might also be on the cards.

CEO Tim Cook will also show off iOS 7, the latest version of the mobile operating system. The OS was first previewed in June and features changes to email, calendar and photo applications. New fonts, icons and a brighter colour scheme are also on the agenda.
