Xiaomi announced its take on the large-screen smartphone in the shape of Mi Max, alongside an update to its MIUI platform.

Mi Max’s spec sheet is dominated by its 6.44-inch display, although at no point did the company mention screen resolution. Also highlighted was the 4850mAh “super large battery” and slimline 7.5mm body.

Other features include 16MP main and 5MP front cameras and fingerprint sensor.

Three versions will be available, with the base version (Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage) costing CNY1,499; middle option (Qualcomm Snapdragon 652, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage) at CNY1,699; and the top MiMax (Qualcomm Snapdragon 652, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage) at CNY1,999.

MIUI
With regard to MIUI, the company will open registrations for beta next week, with testing to take place during June 2016.

Features highlighted include a power saving mode and multi-window management. It also detects scam and fraud messages.

The Notes application now supports fingerprint and password production, and has new templates for documents. The calculator has also been updated to deliver advanced calculations and conversions.

Quick share controls have been added to make it easier to share content with friends, and users can now draw on top of photos. Video editing tools are also added, including support for filters, effects and music.

Also added are barcode scanning capabilities to enable online search and purchase of products, and “snap and shop” to find products based on images.

System fonts and colours have been updated, and a wallpaper carousel provides access to lock screen images from “over 50 media partners”.
