Vodafone New Zealand and Telecom New Zealand announced a joint response to the country’s Rural Broadband Initiative, which is intended to deliver 5Mb/s broadband services to 80 percent of rural households within six years. The intention is to extend Telecom’s fibre network to key points of presence including schools and hospitals, with Vodafone’s wireless network expanded to deliver mobile broadband services to subscribers.
