KDDI expects smartphone growth to revive profit growth in its mobile business in “about two years,” according to a Bloomberg report. Citing comments from Takashi Tanaka, new president of the company, the report says that KDDI has previously said that profit in the mobile phone unit will fall by around 11 percent to JPY430 billion (US$5.2 billion) in the year to 31 March 2011, on revenue down 4 percent to JPY2.55 trillion. The operator plans offering a 3G smartphone with WiMAX support during the next fiscal year.
