Messaging app and social network LINE has passed 150 million registered users just three months after hitting the 100 million user milestone.

The milestone has been reached in 19 months, following the release of the app in June 2011. In that time, it has been ranked the number one free title in 41 markets.

LINE gives users free voice calls and messages on iOS, Android and Windows Phone over 3G and 4G mobile broadband as well as Wi-Fi.

It is now available in 12 languages, with Spanish, French and Portuguese recent additions as the company caters for regions where it has seen strong growth.

There are now more than 10 million users in Spain, making it the first market in Europe to pass that total.

LINE formed a strategic alliance with Nokia in February to bring its services to the Finnish handset vendor’s low-end Asha line, powering LINE’s official entry into Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.

A number of new services have been added to the platform including 24-strong game portfolio LINE GAME, which exceeded 100 million users in March. LINE camera also performed strongly, passing 30 million downloads earlier this month, while LINE Tools and the LINE Antivirus app were recently launched.

LINE intends to accelerate its expansion into foreign markets and further expand its user base with the addition of new features, to make the service “an integral piece of infrastructure for users all around the world”.
