ST-Ericsson, a joint venture between Sweden’s Ericsson and STMicroelectronics, posted an 8 percent jump in net sales as demand for mobile phone chips bounced back. The loss-making chip company posted net sales of US$606 million in the first quarter, up 8 percent year-on-year on a proforma basis but down 18 percent from the seasonally stronger holiday quarter. Its adjusted operating loss narrowed to US$114 million, from a loss of US$149 million a year ago on a proforma basis.
