Semiconductor vendor ST-Ericsson is launching a HSPA+ modem capable of speeds up to 21 Mb/s, according to the company. It also claims its M5730 modem offers up to fifty percent lower power consumption than competing HSPA+ 21Mb/s modems. “ST-Ericsson’s M5730 is the world’s first two-chip 21Mb/s modem and the smallest HSPA+ 21Mb/s solution to date,” adds the vendor. The company expects the modem to be shipping in smartphones early next year.
