TeleGeography, citing an Economic Times report, notes that the Indian government has said that the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP) will now not take place until at least 31 December. The decision to delay the launch of the service is understood to have been prompted by failures by mobile operators to upgrade their networks to prepare for MNP, whilst the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has also shouldered some of the blame, having not yet decided on a tariff for the service.
