More than two-thirds (73 percent) of mobile developers are planning to build apps for tablet devices in the next six months, with Android the most targeted OS.

The Evans Data Mobile Development Survey found that 34.7 percent of developers are currently writing apps for tablets with 38.7 percent planning to do so in the next six months. Just 8 percent said they had no plans to write apps for tablets at all, with the rest saying they plan to do so, but beyond the six month timeframe.

Samsung is the preferred Android tablet maker for developers.

The research also revealed that a higher proportion of developers in North America plan to target tablets than in the Asia-Pacific and Europe, Middle East and Africa regions. The proportion of developers already working with tablets in North America is similar to the overall total at 35 percent, but an additional 46 percent plan to produce titles for tablets in the next six months.

“Developers usually lead the sea of changes in this industry and what we’re seeing in developers’ adoption patterns is a forerunner of what the general industry landscape will become,” said Janel Garvin, Evans Data CEO.
