Touch feedback technology company Immersion announced the creation of Haptify, which it described as “an independent subsidiary created to develop, drive adoption, promote and increase visibility of mobile applications with integrated haptics.” According to the company, the studio will be developing “a number of immersive and entertaining haptic enabled apps and games for Android OS,” in addition to providing support services to developers looking to deliver haptic-enabled games.

According to Immersion, Haptify is “designed to operate as an autonomous startup,” and is “led by a core team of entrepreneurial industry veterans.” It said that its Motiv Development Platform will provide the tools for developers to add haptic effects into mobile applications; Haptify will focus on developing haptic-enabled apps and games for Android Market and service as distribution and promotion channels for other developers integrating haptics into apps. Craig Vachon, Chief Commercial Officer of Immersion, said that: “We have a great opportunity with Haptify because we believe we’re just at the beginning of haptified games and applications on mobile devices, despite the fact that haptic technology is widely available in over 200 million smartphones and tablets today.”

Haptify’s first game, Enzo’s Pinball, is expected to be available in April 2011.
